Mez/N vs N/mez
Ok, me and my roommate have been doing a brief, test and were really looking into now. We both Love SS, and we both love Mezmers. Now i went Mezmer/Necro for the fast casting i can do to really. So i can get SS off and backfire quicker and some other nice little spells. Now, he gets more mana from people dieing, but i kill people quicker. There, are big draw backs on both ends. I see, but with this build i think me and him are a good team if we went together in GVG. He shuts down the tanks, i go after the Monks. I was just looking for some more input on everthing. Cause i'm a wall and i dont know what i should do for more tests and so on thanks guys!

i like me/n over n/me, inspiration magic is a better source of energy than soul reaping, and either one can use it, while only the mesmer primary can use fast casting. runes shouldnt be a big deal because to make the combination successful you'd probably want a lot of points in 3 categories, so just put more points into necro and fewer into mesmer and use runes on them... this is all just imo of course.

If your going SS go Necro Primary so u can get 16 curse magic.
IMO i think SS is a cheap skill.
About what your saying for gvg, any non noob guild will have hex removal skills, and alot of Warriors in gvg fight through a SS, and have the monks heal them. Backfire really isn't a good skill in gvg, since it takes a long time to cast, and then the cast, and has a bad recast time, and the spellcaster can just sit and wait untill it goes away.

wastrel's is like 65 damage at the most. it's not enough to make me worry if im monking.
i agree with saborath. backfire is too slow to bring. people get excited when they see the damage it will do. in reality it doesn't do shit if the caster doesn't cast.
i like spiteful spirit in arena play but i also agree it's not worth anything in gvg.
i love necros. in pve they're strong as hell. in arena i like to play necro and I like to see necro's on my team. but in gvg i would always be mesmer primary over necro. the cast time for necro's is incredible. freakin almost everything is 2 seconds. many are 3. fast casting at 8 or 9 is huge compared to the small amount of energy you'll get back from soul reaping.

For PvE, it's easier to get into groups as a necro primary than mesmer primary. Mainly because necros are such a popular part of the metagame: MM, SS, Orders - and soul reaping really shines in PvE more so than in PvP with the constant amount of stuff dying. Also, it depends on what your build is. As a mesmer primary, you would almost always have to invest points in inspiration for energy management. Fast casting is also a must - otherwise, why be a primary mes anyway? But being a necro is more flexible because you're only tied down with soul reaping as your primary must-have attribute.

I agree that N/Me is better than Me/N for PvE rather than PvP.
I enjoy doing Illusionary Weaponry with a N/Me in CA/RA though.
The comments I get doing that are truly amusing.

Me/N is my pick. The Boost from soul reaping doesn't out do the boost from Inspiration -- if you want that extra energy. Yeah, soul reaping is easier, but if you wanted easier you would be a Wammo. Fast Casting is a beautiful think for the long hexes (backfire, and I think backfire pwns -- you just have to know when to use it, I usually get the shutdown or 600+ dmg off it... but I know my targets) and interupts (that 1/8th of a second has made a lot of sweet interupts for me). Also, I am a mesmer, not a necro. If you want to be SS or MM or Blood Spike or something in the Necro line, be a necro. The points you will save using Runes will more than make of any advantages of using the other primary. Also you are able to climb over 12 pts. Personally, I like FC better than Soul Reaping (I can manage my own energy) but the difference isn't enough to switch to a Mesmer primary to use Necro skills.
